Yes, it's true. I didn't get to see a big firework show this 4th of July. Tragic, really. I'm a major fireworks fan. But Clint convinced me than no firework has got anything on a brilliantly blazing Clint-style mountain bonfire. If you've ever seen Clint around a fire pit, you know. You know what I'm talking about. His eyes dilate, his nostrils flare, and his muscles ripple and grow until they tear out of his T-shirt; and before you realize what's happened, the Fire Hulk is before you. If you're lucky, you may even get to see his Fire Dance.
I love campfires, too. But, like most girls, my problem with camping emerges every time I'm forced to bare myself to the wild in order to relieve my humanly... you know... needs. That, and the mosquitoes. HATE those devil bugs. Even lathering my whole self in 98% Deet is no guarantee against being swarmed. I'm telling you.

Here is my dear hubby in his element. The Wind River Mountains seem to like him back. We hiked in a total of about 5 miles from the trailhead. It included hiking alonside the bank of the lower Green River Lake, crossing the river connecting the lakes, and then hiking alongside the upper lake.

Square Top. Aptly named.

At camp. A really homey site, actually.

Sunset on the Green River. Clint took these pictures whilst I hid from the blood-suckers from within the tent.

But he convinced me to join him for a few pics.

Our 4th - well, technically this was the night of the 3rd - of July fire show.

Morning of the 4th. I just had to take a picture of Clint breaking wood for the fire. This activity makes up such a substantial percentage of our time at camp.

Fishing.

But no fish.

Ramen for lunch. Again, inside the tent here. Hiding from bugs.

After lunch we did a day hike another 2.5 miles up the river, with some beautiful views of Square Top and gorgeous scenery... but lucky us, our camera batteries decided to die. They were re-chargeable batteries, but apparently they were duds, because they obviously only lasted through half of our camping trip. We were devastated. New batteries will be bought before the next excursion.
I am about to concede a... well, I don't know that you can call it a
hobby. It's not a frequent thing. More like a... an interest. A dabbling. Anyway, I love taking nature photos. Drives Clint crazy when we're hiking & I want to stop & zoom in on the
flowers. But, well, I think they add a really great dimension to our adventures. And I'm going to make a project out of my snapshots one day. Decorate our house in beautiful photographs taken by none other than the interior decorator herself. Maybe it's an ego thing. Wish I could do Amy's cute picture collaging with these, but I'm novice.
But anyway, here's a sampling of more scenery to which we were privileged witnesses.
