SUMMER UPDATES
Hi.
Ummm…so it’s been a while. But I have to justify myself by saying that I pride Clint & I on being “do”ers and enjoying our summer so thoroughly that we haven’t had twenty minutes of time to update the blog.
I find myself at work today after almost an entire week of vacation. I am GRUMPY. I do NOT want to be back at work today. But, fortunately for my undeserving self, my sweet Clint sent me an email to check up on me and remind me that the weekend is sooner than I think and that he loves me. I am so lucky.
I’ll try to give a decent recap on what we’ve not been posting about lately. And I’ll think about adding pictures later to this post as I don’t have access to all of them right now at work. (What do you think? Let me know if you want pictures.) Whew…this post is going to get long, but here we go. Don’t feel obligated to keep reading if it starts sounding too much like someone else’s journal entry.
Last Saturday in June: Clint & I took a day trip to the Uintahs. We hiked to Ibantik Lake and scouted out the snow factor for upcoming camping trips. (And I'm sorry; I don't know why so many of these pictures downloaded sideways. I swear I'm not this computer illiterate; I think it's something to do with our camera.)

4th of July weekend: Saturday morning we went back to Uintahs. Hiked about 3 miles to Lake Packard (I think?) and camped in most beautiful spot we’ve ever seen. However, the mosquitos were a nightmare: we each had a cloud of dozens of mosquitos buzzing around our heads searching for any inch that was uncovered by 98% Deet-infused bug spray. The inch the buggers found on me was my eyeball. I spent the next couple of hours hiding in my tent and rinsing out my contact lense. Blood-sucking devil bugs. Sunday we did a day hike around the Naturalist Basin. Which was BEAUTIFUL. Clint & I both think we couldn’t have spent a better Sunday feeling peaceful and inspired and spiritually rejuvenated. (Of course, I didn’t mind not having to chase around my slew of 12-15 nursery kids! Ha ha.) Camped Sunday night at Scudder Lake, hiked out on Monday.

July 12th: We probably did another day hike but I can’t remember which one. Oh wait, that’s right, it was the so pristine Timpanogos! We went with Eddy and Krisi. Talk about sore knees afterward.
July 19th and 20th: Hiked Lake Blanche on Saturday. Clint taught in Elders’ Quorum on Sunday and I taught in nursery. “We can be a family forever! Have any of you cute little people seen this picture of the Salt Lake Temple before? Whew, that’s good, because I’ve seen it about a thousand times but it’s the only one I have!”
THE ANNIVERSARY WEEK~
Tuesday 22nd: Shelly arrived home from Boston. Yay! It was really good to see Clint’s sister again after about 6 whole months. We enjoyed a massive and delicious barbecue meal at Jeff & Kathy’s (Clint’s parents).
Wednesday 23rd: Clint & I left work early and took off for Park City. Clint had reserved for us a romantic and beautifully furnished room at the Silver King Lodge. Complete with kitchen! We strolled Main Street and ate at the Loco Lizard, then went to the outlet malls in the morning. (I couldn’t believe I got Clint to go shopping with me, not only once, but TWO DAYS in a row!! Wow, he must REALLY like me!)
Thursday 24th: We grudgingly returned home from Park City but discovered a truly enjoyable 24th of July spent swimming in the afternoon and in the evening going up to Church Fork to have a campfire with tinfoil dinners and s’mores. Thanks again, Jeff & Kathy. My cherub niece, Eliza, let me carry her around the campsite and stop at all the stream waterfalls to say, “Look at the pretty water, Liza!” And like the sweetly indulging little cuddler she is, she "goo"’d and stared bright eyed at everything I pointed to.
Friday morning 25th: Saw “Dark Knight” in the morning. We had both been excited about this movie for a long time; we both loved “Batman Begins.” (Every time Clint & I decide on an evening at home and he asks me what movie I want to watch, I grin sheepishly and say “Batman?”) Clint loved the new one, too. I liked it a lot, but…I thought the Joker was really scary. He was truly creepy and evil—more like a horror-movie villain than the hate-able but respectable Raz Al-Gul (no clue on the spelling there). Gotta give it up for Heath Ledger, though, of course.
Friday afternoon25th, Anniversary on the 26th, and Sunday evening 27th: Clint and I went up to my side of the family’s cabin. My favorite place in the whole world. It’s up Weber Canyon, near the Smith & Morehouse reservoir. Every summer my immediate family spends an entire week with all the cousins, aunts and uncles on my mom’s side. We play badminton, go mountain biking, take hikes and nature walks, tube down the river, play in the reservoir, play games in the cabin until 2 a.m., read in the afternoons, laugh our brains out, eat more food than we can physically hold, play cards, play boules, Frisbee golf, and any other game we come up with. It all comes very naturally to me, it’s been my family’s tradition for as long as I can remember and Oh, the stories I could tell! I’ve built my whole life around those memories. Clint is a champ for so smoothly engaging in all our eccentric activities. Clint fits in with my family so perfectly it’s almost weird. My uncles and cousins and Grampa love him because he’s a U of U fan and everybody else just thinks he’s great because he’s athletic and loves the mountains, and loves me, and is just such an easy person to get along with. Clint, my love, you are amazing. Saturday was our official anniversary day and many people wished us a happy one. It was sweet! Clint & I took some alone time and burned all his schoolwork from the last year in the fire pit that night. (When we returned to the cabin there was much speculation and teasing.)
On Sunday we had our own sacrament service in front of our very own cabin, per the permission of the bishop of one of my uncles. Yours truly gave a talk on temples, which turned out to be very appropriate given my recent anniversary. Clint & I hiked up Ledge Fork about 3 miles and back. Clint wanted to hike the entire 10 miles over to Crystal Lake, but we couldn’t get anybody to pick us up on the other end. Clint had to leave on Sunday night for work the next day, but he promised to come back on Tuesday evening for me. I walked Clint out to the gate so I could unlock it for him on the way out. I was walking back to the cabin, in the dark, all by myself, and missing my Clint to the point of tears, when…….. “SNORT!!!” My dad hiding in some bushes on the side of the road jumped out at me and scared me to death. I was MAD, too, oh man was I. I screamed in part anger and part terror and I’m sure they heard me in Oakley. Then 10 more yards down the road, my uncles Mat & Eric jump out at me to the same effect. Ooh, those buggers. I was MAD. They knew it too; they all stayed about 10 feet behind me while I vented and fumed the rest of the way back.
Monday 28th-Tuesday 29th: Blissfully carefree days spent at the cabin that reminded me happily of my younger and tomboyish days. (Though I did have some moments of missing Clint dreadfully.) Played lots of badminton and tubed the river and read lots of Austen. I also did a pretty extreme mountain biking trip with my uncles and two cousins who also happen to be two of my life-long friends: Taylor and Davis. We rode about 10 miles or so from the cabin all the way up to Ledge Fork, where we had to actually carry our bikes through some areas that were too rocky, steep, and treacherous to ride. I felt pretty good about myself that I could keep up with the boys. Clint returned on Tuesday night and I was so ecstatic to see him again! We spent another pleasant evening in the mountains before returning home, and I even got a goodbye hug from my adorable 3-year-old cousin George who I’m sure is going to be a lady killer. His dimples and missing front tooth are swoon worthy.
Wednesday (today): Clint sweetened the return home from vacation like I’ve never known anyone to do. He tucked me in this morning so that I could sleep in. And you already know about the email. Tonight we will clean the house and do our laundry and prepare to have Shelly over tomorrow night to judge how well we have kept up the condo in her absence. I hope I pass…though, I’ll admit I’m a terrible housekeeper. I like to play outside too much.
Wow, I don’t feel so grumpy anymore! So how’s that for an update? I’ll work on adding some pictures to this post. Heaven knows there are plenty.
Happy Anniversary to me & Clint, yay!!!
